Abstract - Between Putrajaya and Munich: an analysis of selected martial arts tourism events
Problem. The aim is to describe and comparatively analyse two events from the areas of martial arts tourism and science tourism at the same time. What are the similarities and differences when these events take place on different continents and in different cultural settings? What was the course, content and main meaning of these events?
Method. The method used was visual sociology - an analysis and selection was made from a number of over a thousand photographs. The selected and characteristic ones were shown and described. In addition, a qualitative method of participatory observation was used, taking into account the multiple perspectives of reception of the events described. Scientific description and explanation based on the multiple case study method for two cases were also applied.
Results. A report of the IMACSSS conference in Putrajaya 2024 and a review of the DDBV/IPA seminar in Hebertshausen and Weichs 2025 were presented. A significant impact of cultural context, including religious and political context, on the form and content of an event was found.
Conclusions. Both events can be regarded as fully successful. They are part of the history of fighting arts institutions and scientific institutions. There was an exchange of the latest scientific knowledge and an exchange of views. The emphasis was on other martial arts traditions. Formal differences resulted from the cultural context.
