Abstract - Modernity, tradition and security as the versatility aspects of All Style Karate

Close combat, and thus karate as a field of physical culture, is deeply rooted in the history of mankind. It constitutes a background for a large area of physical exercises of psychophysical dimension. The master – teacher stands for the testimony of the quality of martial arts teaching; and the development and success of his students are the visible effects of his work. In all style karate, there are three mainstays that make up the whole system and guarantee its effectiveness, holism and universality. A set of motor techniques and strategies that characterises all style karate is also supposed to promote improvement of physical fitness and efficiency, which translates into the mental comfort of an individual. The need for self-actualisation, and the need for safety that tends to increase nowadays have been, and still are, the basic needs of humans. In general, two types of threats can be distinguished: external and internal. However, it needs to be stressed that an adequate level of physical fitness that has been worked on in the form of all style karate training may decrease anxiety, and simultaneously increase the feeling of safety in both cases. Viewing all style karate as a way of holistic protection of our own existence from external threats, as well as protection of our psyche, we are making an attempt to treat the universal values of martial art as factors possessing a utilitarian dimension. The usefulness of all style karate system can meet the expectation of improving the quality of life by satisfying the needs for self-actualisation and safety. It can also constitute a protective shield for a human being against the threats of modern world arising from the laws of nature, civilisational threats, from the nature of human soul and the emergence of a negative human factor in the person of an aggressor. All system karate symbiotically combines tradition with properly understood modernity.
