Abstract - Teachers’ competance and the personal predisposition of students of the Academy of Physical Education in their selfesteem

Attempts to find the needed picture of the teacher-tutor and their job competence among the humanities were taken since “always”, that means there was the process of teaching not only in organized forms. Nowadays, in reformed educational system, much more depends on independently working teacher than it was in the past. Teachers of Physical Education are facing not only new challenges connected with integration with the European Union but also a great chance of accepting Physical Education as a really valuable subject in the whole pducational process, which could be expressed by the motto: There is no Education without the Physical Education. It is worhwhile to think what potential for our future, because still studying, teachers possess.
We were interested in job predispositions of the students who were in the middle of the educational process at the Academy of Physical Education, finding intensity of qualities mentioned as job predispositions and the level of those qualities in students’ self-esteem.
The aim of this research was to analize the level of self-esteem and personal predispositions analized in the aspect of future teachers, now students of year two at the Academy of Physical Education.
Researched material was a group of academic youth, students of year two studying Physical Education the Academy of Physical Education. The total number was 186 including 86 female and 100 male students. The average age was 21 for both groups. Research was carried out in March, 2002. The method used was diagnostic survey, questionaire and basic statistical description. The material was gathered using the questionaire of needed job predispositions by Blackford and Newcomb [Baley 1967, p. 250] and questionaire of selfesteem by Niebrzydowski [1976, p. 91]. The first of them contains 23 features of needed personal predispositions characteristic for the picture of Physical Education teachers, including physical and psychological factors analized in the following scale: very high, high, average, and low level.
Judging from the analysis of the carried research it could be stated that only a little more than a half of the population of students see themselves as predispositioned for future job as Physical Education teachers. However, the significant part of the students represent inadeqate self-esteem (too high or too low). Both of those types are alarming, becouse too high or too low self-esteem could show the picture of oneself in the wrong light and, what follows, the feeling of one’s value. The results and analysis of the research lead to the conclusion that, at that point of academic education, only a few more than a half researched students see themselves as future teachers of Physical Education.
