Abstract - The Impact of Physical Activity on Quality of Life Through Self-Control, and the Effect of the Type of Activity on Self-Control
Background. Based on the assumption that physical activity is a component of the educational process, engaging in physical activity can promote some personality traits and affect the quality of life.
Objective. A quantitative study was conducted to test whether self-control is a mediator in the relationship between physical activity and quality of life, and also to test the effect of the type of physical activity practiced on the level of self-control.
Methods. A total of 346 individuals aged between 18 and 60 were investigated using the questionnaire method. Statistical analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS, version 29 (correlations and variance analyses), while mediation analysis was conducted using the bootstrapping method (Model 4 in macro-PROCESS).
Results. The existence of a partial mediation of self-control in the relationship between physical activity and quality of life was confirmed. In addition, the effect of the type of physical activity practiced on the level of self-control was confirmed.
Conclusions. The results emphasize the role of physical activity (with a focus on martial arts and sports) in shaping self-control and its impact on quality of life.
